About Gestalt therapy

What is Gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is a humanistic therapeutic approach that centers your direct experience, what you feel, think and how you function right now. Instead of interpreting the past, the Gestalt therapist accompanies you in discovering what you're not aware of in the moment: cut-off emotions, blocked needs, habitual avoidance patterns.

At our Warsaw office, Gestalt therapists use experiments, body work, the empty chair technique and therapeutic dialogue to help you reclaim the fullness of experience. Gestalt teaches that awareness itself is healing: when you truly feel what you feel, change happens naturally.

Feel what you feel

Gestalt teaches that healing isn't about analyzing, it's about experiencing. When you allow yourself to truly feel what you feel, without judging or escaping, change happens naturally. The first step is a courageous conversation.

Gestalt pillars

What is Gestalt therapy based on?

Awareness

The foundation of Gestalt is awareness, carefully observing what happens in the body, emotions, thoughts and relationships in the moment. The therapist helps notice what usually escapes attention: body tensions, unfinished sentences, avoided topics.

Contact & relationship

In Gestalt, the therapeutic relationship is alive and authentic. The therapist isn't a distant expert; they're a present, engaged dialogue partner. What happens between you in session is material to work with and a mirror of your relational patterns.

Experiment

Gestalt doesn't just talk, it experiments. Empty chair technique, role-playing, body and breath work, gesture amplification: these practical tools allow experiencing change in safe office conditions before transferring it to life.

Session experience

What does a Gestalt session look like?

Authentic dialogue

The Gestalt therapist doesn't sit in silence; they're an active, present partner. They share observations, draw attention to body language, tone of voice or avoided topics. The dialogue is alive, direct and honest.

Therapeutic experiments

The therapist may propose an experiment, e.g. replacing "I can't" with "I don't want to," talking to an empty chair, amplifying an unconscious gesture. These aren't textbook exercises; they arise organically from what emerges in session.

Awareness in and of itself, by and of itself, can be curative.

Gestalt therapy is a humanistic psychotherapy approach that focuses on the "here and now" experience. Instead of analyzing the past, the therapist helps the patient become aware of what they feel, think and do in the present moment. The goal is deepening self-awareness, integrating cut-off emotions and authentic contact with yourself and others.
CBT focuses on changing thoughts and behaviors using structured techniques. Gestalt instead focuses on experience, what you feel in your body, what emotions arise during session, how you make contact. Gestalt works more with process than content, is less directive and more experimental.
Gestalt is effective for problems with expressing emotions, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, feeling disconnected from yourself, anxiety, depression, trauma, boundary issues, burnout and situations where you feel you're "living on autopilot" and want to reclaim authenticity.
A Gestalt session is a dialogue: the therapist is an active partner, not an observer behind a desk. They may suggest experiments (e.g. the "empty chair" technique), draw attention to body language, breathing or tone of voice. The session focuses on what's happening in the moment between patient and therapist.
Yes, online Gestalt therapy is effective: eye contact and therapist presence are maintained through Google Meet. While body work is somewhat limited online, the "here and now" relational experience is equally vivid and transformative.
Gestalt therapy sessions at our Warsaw office start from 180 PLN for a 50-minute session. Session frequency, usually once weekly, is determined with the therapist. Pricing is available on each specialist's profile.
