About systemic therapy

What is systemic therapy?

Systemic therapy views every person as part of a larger system: family, partnership, group. Your behaviors, emotions and problems don't exist in a vacuum; they're responses to relational dynamics, roles and communication patterns that have built up over years. Instead of looking for "blame," the systemic therapist helps understand and change patterns across the whole system.

At our Warsaw office, systemic therapists work with individuals, couples and families. This approach is particularly strong in resolving conflicts, improving communication and working through difficult changes, such as divorce, birth of a child, teenage years or family addiction issues.

Change relationships, change yourself

Most emotional problems have roots in relationships. Systemic therapy helps see the bigger picture and understand how communication patterns in family, partnership or work affect your well-being and behaviors. Change starts with a new perspective.

Applications

When is systemic therapy best?

Partnership conflicts

Recurring arguments, communication difficulties, feeling distant, infidelity, trust crisis. Systemic therapy helps understand interaction patterns driving conflicts, and replace them with healthier communication.

Family in crisis

Conflicts with teenager, post-divorce difficulties, boundary issues, family addiction, birth of a child, illness of a loved one. Systemic therapy helps the whole family find new balance and improve communication.

Individual patterns

Recurring relationship patterns, autonomy difficulties, family-imposed "roles," transgenerational beliefs. Even in individual therapy, the systemic perspective helps understand where your patterns come from and how to change them.

How we work

New perspective on old problems

Circular patterns

The systemic therapist helps see how one person's behaviors affect others' reactions and how a "vicious cycle" forms. Understanding this cycle is the first step to breaking it.

Reframing

A key technique is reframing, showing the problem from an entirely new perspective. What seems like an "attack" may be a desperate attempt at connection. What looks like "indifference" may be a way of protecting oneself from pain.

The problem is not the problem. Coping is the problem.

Systemic therapy is an approach that views individual problems in the context of relationships and systems they function in: family, partnership, work, social group. Instead of looking for "blame" in one person, the therapist analyzes communication patterns, roles and dynamics between people that maintain the problem.
No! While systemic therapy is known for family work, it works excellently in individual therapy, couples therapy, and even with teams. The systemic perspective means that even when working with one person, the therapist considers the context of relationships and systems they function in.
Systemic therapy is usually short- to medium-term, from several to a dozen sessions. It focuses on specific problems and finding solutions, not on years-long exploration. Sessions last 50 minutes (individual) or 75 minutes (couples and families). Frequency is determined individually.
Systemic therapy is particularly effective for relationship problems (partner, family), parent-child conflicts, post-divorce difficulties, eating disorders in adolescents, family-context addictions, communication problems, and situations where one person's change requires the whole system to change.
Yes, online systemic therapy is effective, both individual sessions and couples or family sessions. Meetings take place via Google Meet. For online family sessions, each family member just needs camera and microphone access.
