Anxiety is a natural defence mechanism

Everyone experiences anxiety. It's a perfectly normal response to perceived threats. The problem arises when anxiety starts dominating daily life, work, or relationships.

1. The 4-7-8 breathing technique

Inhale through your nose for 4 counts, hold for 7, exhale through your mouth for 8. Four repetitions usually suffice to lower your heart rate.

2. Grounding: the 5-4-3-2-1 technique

Find 5 things you can see, 4 you can hear, 3 you can touch, 2 you can smell, and 1 you can taste. This anchors your attention in the present moment.

3. Movement, even a short walk

Even 20-30 minutes of walking daily lowers cortisol and releases endorphins.

4. Thought journaling

Writing down your worries makes them easier to evaluate realistically.

5. Talking to a psychotherapist

If anxiety persists for more than two weeks and affects your daily life, it's worth talking to a therapist. CBT is one of the most effective methods for anxiety disorders.
